"Wild Iris"
Fused applique, free-motion quilted.

Back in 1994, I rented a farmhouse on 30 acres with a pond located on the property. I call this photo my "Wild Iris" shot, because although irises don't grow wild in NJ, this one had probably divided and prospered for a countless number of years alongside the pond, untouched by humans. When I purchased the wild striped fabric in Lancaster I thought it would be perfect to simulate certain kinds of flowers. While this art quilt is much more "wild" and vivid than my original photo, I thought I'd be a bit daring and create something intense. Closeups can be viewed here of the free-motion quilting on the petals and leaves. Love those commercial batiks. Here's another closeup of the wild print.
