"Songbirds of Winter"
Hand-painted cotton (birds and background), appliqued birds, free-motion quilted.

Since I normally prefer to work realistically, this quilt was an attempt at an abstract piece, based on the colors of the winter songbirds that frequent our feeders. I thought it would be interesting to paint a fairly wild abstract piece of fabric using the colors found in blue jays, titmice, chickadees, cardinals, doves, sparrows, woodpeckers, and juncos, to name a few. Here's a closeup of the birds and the stitching.
